A major pet peeve of mine is poor etiquette whilst holding a phone conversation, whether it is casual or not. Here are some major and shall I say unexpected and ridiculous examples of what’s inappropriate, rude, annoying and, well, just not right:
Screaming at children to behave – I’m not doing anything wrong, so I don’t need to go deaf hearing you scream about something in which I can hear it the loudest.
Hacking up a lung, sneezing, burping, or even releasing flatulence. – Please, I never want to hear that, but on a positive, at least those germs can’t attack me.
Making a ruckus in the kitchen preparing food – It’s horrible to have to ask WHAT!? a million times because you can’t hear the person on the other end due to pots and pans being banged around. Prepare your damn food and call me while it’s cooking, or when you’re finished eating it. That leads me to a tied in annoyance to this one – NEVER talk while eating and with your mouth full. Gross.
Obnoxious pets – As if barking isn’t bad enough in the middle of the night while trying to sleep, it happens over the phone too much. Put a muzzle on it, shew it into another room, I don’t care, I just want quiet.
In a vehicle – First off, you should NOT be on the phone while driving, but if you are, I don’t need to hear WHAT!? WHAAAAT!? I’m going through a tunnel, I can’t hear you! -or- Say that again! My windows are down, it’s hard to hear you. Simply unsafe and unwanted.
*Using the bathroom – I REALLY should NOT have to place this on the list, but I see it done all too much! Please please please, I beg of all of you out there that are culprits of this to STOP IT! There is nothing more disturbing than to be talking to someone and hearing an awkward KURPLOP!!! followed by the unraveling of a toilet paper roll, and if they don’t care to try to be discrete and cover up what they’re doing, a flush and washing of the hands.
Other annoyances – Filing nails, a loud television or radio, holding another conversation, etc.
